Connect 4 are seeking a Machine Safety Engineer to help with the growth of a globally recognised company that have recently won large scale projects all across the UK. Being Machine Safety Engineer, you will form part of the team that supports the machinery-safety engineering process. The machinery safety team work primarily in the engineering phase of each project but also across all phases of project delivery to ensure the delivered machines are engineered to meet all the legislative and regulatory requirements.

Key Responsibilities:

To support the engineering function during the design phase of the machinery. Participating in design reviews and creating design risk assessments.
To support the machine safety team on customer sites throughout the installation and commissioning phases.
To review machine installations throughout installation and commissioning phases, identify potential safety issues and help develop controls and solutions.
To track and monitor the closure of machinery safety issues and concerns raised by personnel and clients on customer sites.
To confirm that machine safety installations are fitted in accordance with design intent and serve the control purposes specified.
To have the flexibility to work across more than one project and customer site simultaneously.
To act independently and ensure that both potential and actual machine safety issues are identified early and actioned appropriately even where circumstances involve pressures created by project delivery schedules and site teams.
Communicate with the engineering teams to feed-back changes made to the machines to rectify safety issues.
Be capable of making recommendations for improved systems of work or other measures reducing risk.
To control certain aspects of machine safety applicable to the machine-build phase (e.g. safety parameters applicable to industrial robots that may be adjusted during commissioning activities).
To organise and report the status and progress of safety activities regularly to the machine safety team.

Preferred Skills, Knowledge and Experience:
Understanding of machine safety regulations, standards and principles
Applied understanding of the requirement for Risk Assessment under the Health and Safety at Work Act 1974 and associated regulations and approved codes of practice;
Applied knowledge of the practical requirement of Machines Safety related regulatory frameworks including:
The Supply of Machinery (Safety) Regulations 2008
Provision and Use of Work Equipment Regulations 1998 (PUWER)
Lifting Operations and Lifting Equipment Regulations (LOLER) 1998
The Electricity at Work Regulations 1989
The Electrical Equipment (Safety) Regulations 1994
Should hold a recognised engineering qualification.
Experience with machinery manufacturing and complex machines.
Should hold as a NEBOSH National General Certificate in Occupational Health and Safety or equivalent.

The Technical Author is responsible to Create (write) technical documentation including operation-and-maintenance instruction manuals, maintenance schedules and special instructions for complex automated machinery amongst other duties such as:

·Create special bespoke local instruction signage for machine operators and maintenance personnel.

·Collate and organise sub-supplier documentation. Prepare for delivery to our customer.

·Review instruction manuals and other documentation received from sub-suppliers for content, relevance and accuracy.

·Collate and organise site generated documentation such as statutory test and inspection reports. Prepare for delivery to our customer.

·Collate and organise documentation for internal records.

·Maintain documentation trackers and registers for each project.

·Liaise with our customer to understand our delivery commitment. Arrange handover of documentation packages.

·Work with project teams to understand and maintain project deadlines.

Essential Skills/Abilities

·Highly organised.

·Previous exposure to automated machinery or machine building would be an advantage.
